Recordings of Eric Zeisl's Music

Until recently, few of Zeisl's works had been recorded. There were two recordings on Charles Adler's label SPA (Society for Participating Artists) issued in the 50s with Zeisl's violin and viola sonatas, piano pieces and songs, recorded by Israel Baker (violin), Sven Reher (viola), Yaltah Menuhim (piano), Eda Schlatter (piano), Marilynn Hall (soprano) and Eric Zeisl (piano).

In 1991, Harmonia Mundi released a cd of Eric Zeisl's chamber music. The world premiere recording features Zeisl's Piano Trio Suite, Op. 8 (1923-24), Second String Quartet (1953) and "Arrowhead" Trio for Flute, Viola and Harp.

Eric Zeisl's most often-performed work, the "Requiem Ebraico" (1945) dedicated to the memory of "his father and the countless victims of the Jewish tragedy in Europe" has been released by Decca/London Records performed by Lawrence Foster (cond.), Deborah Riedel (soprano), Della Jones (mezzo-soprano), Michael Kraus (bass-baritone) and the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin and Rundfunkchor Berlin. The Zeisl work is paired with Franz Waxman's "The Song of Terezin." Click for a picture of the cover and recording sessions, or a review of the cd.

In Spring 1998, ASV Records in London released a cd of music by Zeisl and Franz Reizenstein on its Quicksilva label.  This is a world premiere recording of Zeisl's Sonata for Cello and Piano (1951) dedicated to Gregor Piatigorsky.  The music was recorded by the Duo Hebraique, Marc Moskovitz, cello and Daniel Shapiro, piano.   All royalties from this disc will be donated to the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee.

The Amber Trio of Jerusalem has recorded Zeisl's Piano Trio Suite, op. 8 (1924) in conjunction with the Jewish Museum of Vienna. The cd is available from ORF.
